Male Breast Reduction - Gynecomastia
Male breast formation (gynecomastia) is a very common condition. Although benign, it can psychologically affect those with this condition. It may affect one or both breasts and is common during puberty. It may also occur as a result of prescription medicines, drug abuse, or may have no known cause.
After weight loss, many men complain of "breast formation." While this is not true gynecomastia, because it is excess skin and not breast tissue, it is still as troubling.
The treatment usually involves a combination of liposuction and excision of the excess glandular tissue and skin. The result is the elimination of this excess tissue and the restoration of a flat, masculine chest.

Both he and his family reported immediate improvement in his self-esteem and has become more comfortable in social situations.

Most patients will undergo a complete medical workup prior to any surgical correction of this problem.

In some cases, liposuction is adequate. This is the case when the breasts are mostly fatty and contain very little breast tissue. True breast tissue is very dense, however, and usually not easily removed with liposuction. More commonly, liposuction is combined with a small incision around the nipple to directly remove the dense breast tissue.
Yes. It is extremely important to wear a compressive surgical garment after surgery. This helps to reduce swelling and helps the skin to "shrink". This garment should be worn at all times for 2 weeks and then as often as possible for an additional 4 to 6 weeks.
