Liposuction
Liposuction is a powerful tool that can greatly improve the contour of the entire body. Liposuction is designed to "sculpt" the body and it is NOT a weight loss procedure. Targeted liposuction can improve many areas of the body that are resistant to diet and exercise. We utilize a power-assisted, tumescent liposuction technique that enables superb sculpting with minimal bruising, swelling, or discomfort.
While liposuction is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures in both men and women, it takes proper training to obtain excellent results without compromising patient safety. We have extensive training in an accredited plastic surgery residency, are board certified in plastic surgery, and have performed thousands of plastic surgery procedures - we have not simply completed a weekend course in liposuction.
Liposuction may be performed on most areas of the body safely, including the abdomen, flanks, back, chest, legs, and neck. It can be combined with other procedures or done alone. A compression garment is worn after the procedure to minimize swelling and discomfort.

Several small "nicks" will be made in the skin through which the small cannulas are placed. These incisions can be closed with a single stitch each, and they are placed in discrete areas and are rarely visible.
If you gain weight after liposuction, the fat will preferentially go to other places on the body. This is because when you gain weight, you do not increase the number of fat cells. Rather, the fat cells that you have simple get larger. Because liposuction removes fat cells, there will not be significant "weight gain" in that area.
For the most part, yes. After liposuction, the skin may appear to be lax. Over the next several months, the skin's normal elasticity will allow it to "shrink" and "tighten." In some patients, the amount of excess skin may be too much to tighten adequately after liposuction. In this case, your physician may recommend that this skin be directly removed in addition to liposuction.
Most people see some results immediately. However, because of normal swelling that occurs, some people don't see a significant improvement for several weeks. Over the next 9 months, your body's shape will continue to improve and you will see a dramatic improvement.
Yes. Compression garments and girdles are an extremely important part of the recovery after liposuction. These garments will help reduce the bruising and swelling that is normal after this procedure. It will also help to shorten the amount of time you need in order to see full results. Compression garments need to be worn at all times for the first 2 weeks and then as much as possible during the next 4 weeks.
No. In fact, it may make it worse.
