"Breast Lift" or Mastopexy
Many factors contribute to changes in breast shape and size. Some women's breasts do not develop an ideal shape or position after puberty. The normal aging process can result in "sagging" breasts, as the tissue loses its support. Pregnancy and breast feeding can also cause changes in the breast which can be helped with a breast lift. Additionally, weight loss may result in breast "sagging" as well.
A mastopexy involves lifting the breasts to restore them to the normal position. While this does not affect volume, it does give the appearance of youthful, "perky" breasts, much like a pushup bra. New techniques are used that can increase the volume of your breasts, without the use of implants.

Yes. It is impossible to perform a breast lift without placing scars on the breast. We do everything we can to minimize the scarring, but much has to do with your own body's healing ability. The specific scars depend on the type of breast lift that is performed. The choice of procedures depends on the shape and size of your breasts. Your doctor will discuss your options with you.
If you are happy with the size of your breasts in a bra, then you do not need an implant. If you would like to be larger, then an implant can be combined with a lift.
Generally, we recommend waiting because pregnancy has a tremendous effect on the shape and size of the breasts. Pregnancy after a breast lift may result in some sagging of the breast tissue, therefore it advisable to wait.
Maybe. Areola reduction is performed if the areola (pigmented skin around the nipple) has been enlarged. Reducing the size gives a more youthful appearance to the breast.
A breast lift should not have any effect on your ability to breast feed.
This is a possibility after any surgery on the breast. We take special precautions to avoid loss of nipple sensation, however, this remains a possibility. Many patients complain of nipple "numbness" after surgery, but this is usually temporary and resolves after a few weeks.
Yes. A "mastopexy" will lift the breast tissue. Although this gives the appearance of a larger breast, it does not really increase the breast volume. If you desire to be lifted AND larger, an implant can be placed and this is called an "augmentation mastopexy."
