Body
Dr. Skolnik and Dr. Schulman understand that many of the changes in your body cannot be reversed through diet and exercise. Dr Skolnik and Dr. Schulman will work closely with you to develop a treatment strategy that creates the body that you desire.
Breast Augmentation - Breast Enlargement
Breast augmentation is one the most commonly requested cosmetic procedure, and patient satisfaction following breast augmentation is extremely high. Women desire breast augmentation for several reasons:
- they have always desired to have a larger chest
- they have lost volume after weight loss or pregnancy
- to correct asymmetry between the right and the left breast
- to correct congenital deformites such as "tuberous breast"
- to correct normal "drooping" that occurs with aging
"Tummy Tuck" or Abdominoplasty
A very common problem after pregnancy and/or weight change is loss of support of the abdominal wall and an excess of "hanging" skin of the lower abdomen. An abdominoplasty, or "tummy tuck, is designed to address a variety of problems. It involves removal of the excess skin of the lower abdomen and tightening of the abdominal muscles. This combination of skin removal and muscle tightening provides the powerful results. Often, liposuction is also performed to help create a more defined waistline. The surgery is designed to create a smooth, flat, and tight abdomen.
Breast Reduction
Large breasts, or macromastia, can be a serious problem for some women. The weight of the breasts may cause back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain and rashes beneath the breasts. Other women simply want their breasts smaller for cosmetic reasons. Regardless of your motivation, breast reduction surgery can be one of the most satisfying and life-changing procedures. There are several techniques, all of which aim to create a smaller and lifted breast.
"Breast Lift" or Mastopexy
Many factors contribute to changes in breast shape and size. Some women's breasts do not develop an ideal shape or position after puberty. The normal aging process can result in "sagging" breasts, as the tissue loses its support. Pregnancy and breast feeding can also cause changes in the breast which can be helped with a breast lift. Additionally, weight loss may result in breast "sagging" as well.
Breast Reconstruction after Mastectomy
There are several techniques available for the recreation of a breast that is removed because of cancer. Breasts can be created at the same time as the mastectomy, or years later. Techniques include the use of prosthetic material, or breast implants, as well as your body's own tissue. Dr. Skolnik and Dr. Schulman will be happy to discuss all the options with you and help you choose a technique that best suits your needs and body type. We work closely with your oncologist and breast surgeon throughout the entire reconstruction process to provide you with optimal care.
Liposuction
Liposuction is a powerful tool that can greatly improve the contour of the entire body. Liposuction is designed to "sculpt" the body and it is NOT a weight loss procedure. Targeted liposuction can improve many areas of the body that are resistant to diet and exercise. We utilize a power-assisted, tumescent liposuction technique that enables superb sculpting with minimal bruising, swelling, or discomfort.
Male Breast Reduction - Gynecomastia
Male breast formation (gynecomastia) is a very common condition. Although benign, it can psychologically affect those with this condition. It may affect one or both breasts and is common during puberty. It may also occur as a result of prescription medicines, drug abuse, or may have no known cause.
After weight loss, many men complain of "breast formation." While this is not true gynecomastia, because it is excess skin and not breast tissue, it is still as troubling.
"Lower Body Lift"
This is also referred to a "circumferential lipectomy" or a "belt lipectomy." After massive weight loss, the excess skin remains and sags. This procedure is designed to simultaneously address the excess skin in both the front and the back of the body. A lower body lift is equivalent to "pulling up your pants." When done correctly, it not only results in an improved appearance of the abdomen and lower back, but also provides a powerful improvement in the buttock and outer thigh contour. The laxity of the abdominal muscles can also be tightened during this procedure.
"Upper Arm Reduction" or Brachioplasty
The upper arms are particularly sensitive to fluctuations in weight. After losing weight, the skin an dfat of the upper arm can become lax and begin to hange. This results in what many refer to as "bat wings". This laxity cannot be corrected through exercise. Many people find this so distressing that they wear long sleeves shirts year round, even in the summer. women are usually so self-conscious that they avoid social events that require dresses that show their arms.
Hand Rejuvenation
The hands are an often ignored area of the body, and can often appear older than a person's age. This is because the hands are constantly subjected to harmful ultraviolet rays, environmental irritants, and hand washing.
Treatments for hand rejuvenation revolve around eliminating pigment and age spots, reducing lines and wrinkles, and "plumping" bony hands with prominent veins. We utilize the similar treatments on the hands, that we use on the face - chemical peels, fillers, topical cosmoceuticals, and lasers.
Thigh Lift
After weight loss, many patients have excess skin along their inner thighs. This area is not corrected by an abdominoplasty or a "lower body lift." Liposuction does not offer an adequate correction, because there still remains excess skin.
The excess tissue in this area is removed and the scar is hidden in the groin. The result is improved contour of the inner thighs - extending from the groin to the knees. This procedure may be combined with other body contouring procedures.
Hair Reduction
Many people desire permanent hair reduction. Commonly used techniques such as depillatories and waxing can be irritating and do not successfully remove unwanted hair for long durations. Intense Pulsed Light therapy can result in up to an 80% reduction in the amount of hair and is safe throughout the body. Multiple treatment sessions are necessary to achieve a long term result.
